Week3-Color dodge in Game

Week3-Color dodge in Game

In Chinese culture, most expressions are conservative. The violent, bloody and sexy contents in media are strictly controlled by government. However, in gaming world, violent, bloody and sexy contents are essential elements in a huge game. In other words, these elements are not avoidable in any popular game, included Lol. Lol especially has gameplay mechanics that characters fight and kill each other, and have one champion (character in game), who is a vampire, is strongly related to bloody elements.
In Chinese severs of Lol, fortunately this champion is not banned because of the balance of the whole game, but the bloody color of this champion has edited. The bloody color of this champion’s skill and attack is edited to a darker red, shown in Figure 1. The blood in champion’s hand at left is bloodily red, but the one at right is dark red. People in China who edited it may believe that a darker color will hardly make people connect it to blood color, so it is less violent and bloody. However, in other servers, the color keeps bloodily red.

World Championship Stage Desgin

World Championship Stage Desgin

Let's talk about the stage design of this game's biggest event. Since this game is happening in Shanghai, China. The back screen is showing the remarkable building in Shanghai, and by different doors' position to show a visually 3-D effect. The visual effect on website streaming is always better than the actural stage, so I guess that this stage is made by 4-face screens, which are left, right, forward and downward.
Other than the setup screen in this stage, the color of the stage design is also very symbolic. The red and blue colors are two colors sybols two groups against each other. The cloud-like painting underneath the teams' logo is one of the most popular symbols in China, which means luck and peace.
However, the only thing that is not perfect in is desgin is that two groups should have different colors of cloud as backgrounds, which should be the same as the color of their table or be similar to their tabel. Then this design will be consentient.

In-game design

In-game design

Let me talk some in-game object design. League of legends is a moba game stand for Multiplayer Online Battle Arena. In this kind of game, there are three lines and a jungle area. In the jungle area, there are many monsters. Player can kill monsters to earn money and experiences.
I played 6 years of league, and I just found that these jungle monsters may reveal players position by their line of sight! They will look at you even you are in the brush! Here is a explaination of brush works in League: Brush is a common map feature found on the Fields of Justice that obscures vision from outside observers. So, these monsters could see you if you are closed enough to them no matter where you are. They will always look at you, be nervious, and show unfriendly to you.
How detailed they made this game!

Client of League of Legends

Talk about the client of League of Legends. I played two servers in League of Legends. One is North American server which owned by Riot, and another one is Chinese server owned by Tencent Company which is the parent company of Riot games. So, even though these two servers are the same game, their clients are in different layouts. So, I screentshoted two home page of the different servers' clients. You could tell that two pages' backgrounds are different. Even though they are all in black and dark blue on its top and left frend lists' parts, the main part are in different patternts. In Chinese server, it is always some whole pictures as a background, and they are skins posters. It also has a pop-up page to show the new skins for the gamers. However, in NA server, nothing with the new skins were shown on the home page in the client. It only has a video of KDA-- a virtual pop star in Lol and other useful links. Even in the shop page of the client are so different in two servers. In Chinese one, it has a chinese on the picture to show the limit edition of the skin, and the whole skin picture where shown, but in the NA one , it doesnt have the full picture of the skin, and no built in characters to tell it is limited edition.
